Dr. Dale Ackler, DVM

Received his training from Michigan State University and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. He practiced in New York and Flint, MI before purchasing the Mancelona Veterinary Hospital in 1997. His wife, Tina, is a nurse. They have eight children who keep their family busy attending school functions, sporting events and dance recitals. He also has three dogs, two cats, a chinchilla named Chester and a box turtle named Shirley.

His patients are predominately dogs and cats, but he also sees guinea pigs, hamsters, iguanas, turtles and rabbits. He has also been known to see the occasional deer fawn, wild bird or other wildlife in need. During Veterinary School, he had the opportunity to live at and assist the veterinarians at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington. While there, he got to work with everything from endangered turtles to gorillas. He also assisted in a program that rehabilitated injured bald eagles.

Other than a love for animals, Dr. Dale has a fondness for the outdoors, and enjoys such activities as camping, back packing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and horseback riding.

He is an active member of the Mancelona Rotary, the Mancelona Education Foundation and the Mancelona School Board.

Brittany Stotler, Office Manager

Has been working with Dr. Dale since she was in high school and there isn't much around the clinic she hasn't done. She is one of the most versatile employees, as she often works at the front desk but also assists occasionally in pet treatment. She says the best part of her job is befriending the dogs and cats and their families that come to us. Brittany tries to make everyone feel welcome and valued.

Brittany's animal population includes her kitties Nemo, Milo, and Leo, her three dogs Clyde, Percy, and Dodge. These guys keep her on her toes constantly. She also shares her home with Franklin, her red-eared slider turtle and a hamster, named Pikachu. Besides keeping up with her pets, she enjoys spending time at home with her husband James and their three young boys, James, Lucas, and Isaac.

Alicia Comai, Licensed Veterinary Technician

In the fall of 2010, Alicia graduated from Michigan State University with her Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Technology. Alicia joined the Mancelona Veterinary Hospital in the spring of 2014, after working for an emergency clinic for 2 1/2 years. You can find her assisting with surgeries and taking care of the hospitalized patients.

Alicia grew up in the Zeeland, Michigan area. At age 13, Alicia became involved with various equine activities including open shows and 4-H. She found her true passion for dressage with her thoroughbred named Diablo. When Alicia is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and her daughter Montana. As a family they enjoy camping, snowmobiling, traveling and fishing. Alicia also shares her home with her two cats, Sophie and Sampson.

Sandy Schmidt, Receptionist

After working as a receptionist in a medical practice for seven years, Sandy was a natural fit here at the clinic. She joined our team in 2006 and loves interacting with our patients and their owners.

Mother to Alysia, Josiah, Jessica and Nathan, Sandy keeps herself very busy with all of their activities. Her family enjoys the wooded area around their home and the park nearby. They have 2 Huskies named Willow and Sampson.

Holly Bigger, Receptionist

Holly joined the MVH team in 2011 and has been a wonderful addition to our work family. She says her favorite part about working at Mancelona Veterinary Hospital is observing and discovering how different breeds of dogs have specific personality traits. Holly works as our receptionist and can be found greeting clients and manning the front desk.

Holly moved to Northern Michigan in 1998. Along with her husband she has 2 children and 2 stepchildren. In her free time Holly enjoys gardening and crafts. Her many pets include 4 rescued dogs, 2 cats, a chameleon, rabbit, and fish.

Office Pet: Gilbert

Gilbert is our newest addition. He is a miniature pig who was born in August 2015. He loves his snacks and meeting new people. Everyday is a new adventure as we watch him grow and learn. Please stop in and visit him.

Office Pet: Sheldon Cooper

Sheldon is one of our clinic cats that adopted our MHV family in 2012. He loves to sleep and beg the staff for treats and food all day long. During the summer months, he enjoys long walks in the back yard of the clinic where he can eat all the grass he wants and snooze in the sun!

Office Pet: Chauncey

Chauncey is our other clinic cat. This little guy is our social butterfly. He loves meeting and greeting clients. His favorite past time is drinking directly from the faucet and taking walks around the clinic for exercise.
